Cave of Gethsemane
7/2006
The Cave of Gethsemane is located to the right of the entrance to the "Tomb of Mary" across from the Church of all Nations near the foot of the Mt. of Olives.
The original cave entrance was sealed and a place was carved for the door of the shrine. There is a notch in the cave wall large enough to hold the wooden beam of of an olive oil press. The word Gethsemane meant, "Place of an olive oil press or place of olive oil." There is a tradition that Jesus' disciples were hiding in the cave while he kept watch nearby
